Panthers continue to win

CUSICK - The Cusick Panthers boys’ basketball team continued to rack up wins, beating Northport 87-38 Monday, June 7, at home and Curlew by about 30 points Thursday, June 3, in Curlew. Cusick also beat Selkirk Tuesday, June 1 (see separate story).

"We beat Curlew by about 30 points," Cusick coach Rob Seymour says, although he didn't have the exact score. He estimates it was something like 60-29 or so.

Against Northport, River Edmiston led all scorers with 18 points. Bode Seymour scored 14 points for Cusick, Colton Seymour scored a dozen and Luke Wardrop scored 11.

Coach Seymour says he suited up the whole team for the Northport game, giving the junior varsity players some varsity experience. Ten Cusick players scored in the game, including Lewis Cullooyah, with eight, Kyden Nomee with six, Ethan Fountain with six, Sabine BrownEagle with two and Rodney Haynes with two.

Cusick is undefeated this season. They have been scheduled to play eight games and lead the Northeast 1B League's North division.

The Panthers will likely be tested Wednesday when they host St. George's (7-1). St. George's leads the Northeast 2B North division.

"We should get a good test when we play St. George's," Seymour says. "They're pretty tall." He says he's been told they have a 6-foot, 5-inch point guard. "It'll be speed against size," Seymour says.

After playing St. George's, the Panthers go to Wellpinit for a game Monday, June 14, at 7:30 p.m.
