DIAMOND LAKE – South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescues have some new faces around the fire hall. Maya Phillips comes to SPOFR from the Wenatchee Valley Fire Department. She’s a full time firefighter and EMT. After attending the July 17 orientation, she started her first shift July 20. “I’m liking it and I’m happy to be here,” Phillips said. She enjoys hiking and loves to hike with her dog Hayes.
Phillips has many fire certificates as well as her national EMT and state EMT certificates.
Also new at SPOFR is Shane Stocking. He officially came onboard Sept. 1 as a chief paramedic. He said he appreciated former SPOFR Fire Chief Mike Nokes spending time with him before he was officially on staff.
“Mike shared his experiences over his 13-year tenure as SPOFR Chief and the importance of serving Pend Oreille County with pride,” Stocking said. “In addition, I want to thank Spokane County Fire District 4 for the partnership that allowed Dan Williams and Mike Nokes to help out in SPOFR since January. This partnership would not have been possible without the teamwork of our commissioners and Spokane 4 Chief Neckels.
“I am honored to be serving as your Fire Chief/Paramedic as South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue continues to serve with pride,” Stocking said.
