Priest River girls overwhelmed by Timberlake

PRIEST RIVER – The Priest River Spartan girls soccer team struggled with a talented Timberlake team at home Thursday, Sept. 5, losing 10-1.

Lizzie McCracken scored the Spartans’ sole goal on a penalty kick in the second half. The Spartans were playing without any substitutes.

Timberlake scored six goals in the first half and four in the second.

Senior goalkeeper Kylee Swoboda had 17 saves in her first start of the season. The game was stopped twice for water breaks because of a rule requiring the breaks whenever the temperature is 90 degrees or higher, Priest River assistant coach Nick Tucker said.

The Spartans went to Grangeville for the Central Idaho League game Saturday, where they lost 4-1. McCracken scored the Spartans’ only goal midway through the second half.

Next, Priest River has back-toback games with Bonners Ferry. The Spartans are home Friday, Sept. 13, for a game that starts at 4 p.m. Priest River then travels to Bonners Ferry Monday, Sept. 16 for a game that starts at 5 p.m.
