Free creative play date Sept. 18

NEWPORT – Create Arts Center has a number of things happening in September. Sunday, Sept. 15, hosts an Artists in the Garden event. Eleven diverse artists fill the garden with their creations. Pottery, jewelry, visual arts fiber and fabric arts, hand turned wood bowls, leather work are among the items. Refreshments are available. Mountain dulcimer music is provided by Joanne Heinz.

The Creative Play Date with Clare Clark returns on the first and third Wednesdays of the month, from 3-4:30 p.m. This is for children aged 8-12. Sept. 18 is the next date. The class is supported by the Kalispel Tribe of Indians and is free. After school snacks are provided.

WSU Master Gardeners offer ‘Drop-In Garden Clinic & Tour’

NEWPORT – The Garden Clinic and Tour at the WSU Master Gardeners Demonstration garden and greenhouse will take place Friday, Sept. 20. Drop in anytime between 9 a.m. to noon. Visit with local Master Gardeners about gardening in Pend Oreille County. Watch a brief demonstration, repeated on the hour. See a wide variety of gardening techniques and what’s growing in the Demonstration Garden, which you may be able to duplicate in your own garden and/or plan for next year. Tours will start every 15 minutes. Most importantly, ask the Master Gardeners who are ready to answer all your gardening questions.

The Master Gardeners Demonstration Garden is located just northwest of the WSU/Pend Oreille County Extension Office at 227 S. Garden Ave., in Newport.

Kimekomi class Sept. 21

NEWPORT – A kimekomi class taught by Jenni Barry will be held at Create Saturday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Kimekomi is the Japanese fabric art that tucks fabric into a design. Tools, base and fabric are provided. People can bring their favorite fabric. The class costs $35 and preregistration is required.
