SPOKANE – Innovia Foundation recently awarded $339,888 in scholarships to students throughout Eastern Washington and North Idaho for the 2024-2025 school year. Innovia manages over 30 scholarship programs on behalf of donors who have established funds to help students achieve their higher education goals. “As a community foundation, Innovia is deeply committed to empowering the next generation through education,” Innovia Foundation CEO Shelly O’Quinn said. “It is a privilege to join our dedicated donors in supporting students as they embark on their journey toward higher education and career success.”

Newport High School’s Emmalia Bilaski received a Diamond Lake Ranch Scholarship of $2,500 and a Newport Priest River Rotary Scholarship of $2,000. She plans to study Animal Sciences at Washington State University.

“Continuing my posthigh school education will allow me to pursue the topics that interest me, better myself, and help the community around me in the ways that I want to help. I aspire to achieve a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and eventually purchase my own veterinary practice within a rural community,” Bilaski said.

Oktoberfest book sale Oct. 5

PRIEST RIVER – The West Bonner Library’s Friends of the Library will be having a huge book sale at Main Street Books during Oktoberfest in Priest River Friday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Main Street Books is located at 118 Main St., in downtown Priest River. All proceeds go to support the Priest River and Blanchard libraries.

Come shop the sale for your winter reads and gifts while supporting your favorite library.

Local students make SCC honor roll

SPOKANE – Several area students were named to Spokane Community College’s honor roll for the 2024 summer quarter, which ended in August. The honor roll lists those students who achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or above, including the following students.

Newport - Ashley Betz, Alexander Bono, Laura Hathorn, Michele Otte and Charlene Rawuka Metaline Falls - Silas Petrich Priest River - Savannah Hudson Elk - Heather Fiuren, Wendy Long SCC is one of two community colleges within the Community Colleges of Spokane district. It is known for its programs in career and technical training as well as its apprenticeship programs, but it also offers associates degrees including those that are transfer-ready for those going into universities. SCC serves more than 15,000 students annually with a main campus in east Spokane, five other locations in rural areas of northeastern Washington and a program in the Airway Heights Correctional Center.

Area trivia, karaoke, improv opportunities

NEWPORT – There are a number of places people can go to participate in events, including trivia contests, karaoke and improvisation.

Wednesday, Sept. 18 there is Trivia at Timber Town Beer Co. in Priest River at 6 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 19, Pend Oreille Players in Newport hosts Improv at 5 p.m. Kalispel Casino has Karaoke Nights starting at 7 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 20, at the Ione Public House, KJ Riley hosts karaoke from 7-10:30 p.m. In Priest River, Karaoke at Jammers will take place from 8 p.m. till midnight.

Saturday, Sept. 21. The 5th Avenue Bar and Grill in Metaline Falls will host karaoke from 6-10 p.m. The Roxy Theater in Newport will host Comedy Night from 7-8:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 17, Trivia Tactics will take place at The Slough at Kalispel Casino, from 6- 8 p.m.
