Spartan girls start slow, fall twice to Bonners

PRIEST RIVER – The Priest River Spartan girls soccer team was beaten 10-2 by Bonners Ferry in a home Friday the 13th game and 7-3 at Bonners Ferry Monday, Sept. 16.

Assistant coach Nick Tucker says the girls are starting to see some results from concentrated practice.

“We had five different players get shots on goal,” Tucker says of the first game. “Our ball movement is improving daily.”

Senior Haley Braae scored for Priest River at about the 20-minute mark, he says, and Lizzie McCracken scored at about 70 minutes.

Monday the Spartans went to Bonners for a rematch, losing 7-3.

“It was better than Friday,” Tucker says. Sophomore Macie Olmo scored her first goal ever, with an assist by McCracken. But Bonners led 3-1 at the half. In the second half, McCracken scored once on a penalty kick and once on a breakaway goal.

Swoboda had eight saves at goal.

The Spartans go to Newport Thursday, Sept. 19.

They are at Coeur d’Alene Charter Friday, Sept. 20.
