PRIEST RIVER – The Priest River Spartan boys soccer team found out how good Bonners Ferry is, losing twice to the Badgers in consecutive games.
Friday, Sept. 13, the Spartans went to Bonners Ferry, where they took a 2-0 loss to a “very strong” Bonners Ferry team, Priest River coach Ryan Carruth says.
“Despite having three regular starters out of the lineup last night, I thought the boys fought very hard and did a very good job defensively to limit the chances against a very good Bonners Ferry team who have been scoring lots of goals all season,” Priest River coach Ryan Carruth says. “They are tough to break down but we were able to create a few chances of our own – something we did not do last year against the top tier teams on our schedule.”
Carruth says the team had a glaring mental lapse that cost them the first goal late in the first half after defending so well for the first 36 minutes of the game, just minutes from going into halftime with the score potentially knotted.
Monday, Sept. 16, Bonners Ferry came to Priest River, where they beat the Spartans 6-0. Further information was not available at press time.
Priest River goes to Coeur d’Alene Charter Friday, Sept. 20, for a 4 p.m. game. After that, the Spartans are at home against St. Maries Monday, Sept.
23 and Sandpoint’s junior varsity team Tuesday, Sept. 23. Both games start at 4 p.m.
