Car wash raises money for bank trip

NEWPORT – The Newport School District band is holding a car wash Sunday, Sept. 29, from 1-4 p.m. at Sadie Halstead Middle School. Donations go toward sending the bank on their trip next spring.

Sadie Halstead is located on Calispel Avenue, north of Highway 2 in Newport.

Fatal single vehicle crash near Priest Lake

PRIEST LAKE – Idaho State Police is investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Hwy. 57 Wednesday, Sept. 18 about 10 a.m.

A 67-year-old male from Granville, Ohio driving a white 1999 GMC Yukon was traveling southbound on Hwy. 57, drove left of center, ran off the roadway over the northbound shoulder, and crashed into a group of small trees. The driver was the sole occupant of the GMC and was pronounced dead at the scene. Bonner County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.

Hwy. 57 was blocked in both directions for about an hour for emergency responders to process the crash scene before one lane of travel was opened to allow traffic to pass.
