COUER d’ALENE – The Priest River boys soccer team lost to a talented Coeur d’Alene Charter team Friday, with CDA Charter finding the net in the 60th minute to defeat the Spartans 1-0.
Priest River coach Ryan Carruth says his team showed they can defend against a tough team, but they need to work on offense.
“We wanted to be organized defensively, keeping our lines tight and our shape compact and I thought the boys went out and executed well to limit the chances of a dangerous attacking team,” Carruth says. “We have to be a lot tidier with the ball and improve our passing and final ball accuracy going forward on the counter if we want to have a chance to be a real threat offensively against the top teams in the league, but we showed that we can be a stingy team who is tough to break down defensively tonight.”
Carruth says the Spartans’ goalkeeper was had 10 saves.
“Baylor White was a beast in goal,” he says of Priest River’s goalkeeper. Jayden Stevens, Carter Cook and Cameron Howell posted fantastic performances in the back. He says it was a game the team can take some confidence from and build with.
Priest River hosted St. Maries Monday and played Sandpoint’s junior varsity Tuesday. The Spartans will be at home Saturday for a game with Grangeville that starts at 4 p.m.
