CUSICK – Cusick and Selkirk/Northport battled back and forth in the first quarter of Cusick’s homecoming football game Friday before Cusick broke the game open in the second quarter and went on to a 32-24 win.
The Selkirk/Northport Rangers scored first on a four-yard Parker Petrich run to go ahead in the first quarter. Cusick took the lead back on a 25-yard touchdown run by quarterback Roland Campbell. Thomas Sullivan made the extra points run and Cusick was ahead 6-8.
Before the quarter was out, Selkirk was back in the endzone with a 10-yard Petrich to Eli Timmereck pass. Petrich made the point after run and the Rangers were up 14-8 at the end of the first quarter.
The Panthers came alive in the second quarter with three touchdowns. Campbell broke a 20-yard run to tie the game. With Campbell’s points after run, the Panther went up 16-14.
Sullivan made a 25yard scoring run to add to the lead. The Panthers completed a points after pass to go ahead by 10 points. Cusick took advantage of the time left in the half to score again, this time on a Campbell to Sullivan touchdown pass play. Campbell made the extra points run and Cusick was up 32-14 at the half.
The Rangers didn’t allow any Cusick points in the second half, but couldn’t put enough points on the board to get the win.
Petrich made a oneyard run for a score, with Spencer Duty making the two-point after run. Selkirk took advantage of a bad snap to score a safety, but that was a close as they were able to get. Cusick got the 32-24 win.
Duty was a workhorse for the Rangers, carrying 26 times for 202 yards. Petrich carried nine times for 58 yards and two touchdowns. Jaxson Chantry carried nine times for 32 yards.
Cusick stats were unavailable at press time.
Cusick goes to Springdale Friday for a game and the Rangers are at home for a game with Odessa. Both games start at 7 p.m.
