Spartan girls crack top 10 at Ivan Benson

PRIEST RIVER – The Lady Spartans led the way for Priest River at the annual cross-country Ivan Benson Invite Saturday, Sept. 28 at Priest River Lamanna High School. There were nine high schools competing on a varsity level at the event, including Priest River, Bonners Ferry, IC Academy, Kellogg, Kootenai, Cusick, Riverside, Troy and Kootenai Classical Academy.

Spartan junior Kyla White finished in seventh place in the varsity girls’ 5,000-meter race with a time of 25:22. Sophomore Alannah McLaimtaig was right behind her in eighth place at 25:33. Capri White, a junior, came in 10th place with a time of 26:15. The girls’ overall team score was 62, earning them third place. Bonners Ferry finished first with a team score of 21, followed by Riverside in second place with 48.

In other cross-country news, senior Brayden Lamanna represented Priest River with a fifthplace finish in the Varsity Division II race at the Bob Firman Invitational held last Saturday at Eagle Island State Park. Lamanna posted a 5,000-meter time of 16 minutes and 18 seconds, three seconds away from the school record he set to open the season, according to the Bonner County Daily Bee. He competed against 354 other runners, The Spartans are headed to the Pinehurst Golf Course Thursday, Oct. 3 for the Ben Castro Invitational. The girls’ varsity race starts at 3:45 p.m. and the varsity boys start at 4:30 p.m.
