Spartans battle St.
Maries to tie
PRIEST RIVER – The Priest River girls soccer team played twice last week, getting a 3-3 tie with St. Maries Monday, Sept. 23 and losing 4-2 to Grangeville Saturday. Both were home games.
Against St. Maries Spartan assistant coach Nick Tucker says goalkeeper Kylee Swoboda played well, with two saves and headed off other attempts before a shot could be made.
“She came out of the net and stopped plays before they had a chance to shoot,” he says.
Lizzie McCracken got a hat trick, scoring three goals. Priest River was ahead until late in the second half when St. Maries scored the goahead goal. McCracken also scored the Spartan’s only two goals against Grangeville Saturday in the 4-2 loss. The previous times the teams played Grangeville won 4-1.
Tucker said the Grangeville contest was a physical game.
The Spartans played Timberlake at Spirit Lake Tuesday, Oct. 1. Monday, Oct. 7, Priest River will travel to Sandpoint to play their junior varsity, with the game starting at 5 p.m.
