PRIEST RIVER – The Priest River girls volleyball team lost the last two games, but coach Katlyn Ward was upbeat after the 3-1 loss to Kellogg Thursday, Sept. 26 “Our old team is back,” Ward says. “Played the best I’ve seen them play in several games.”
Ward said the girls dug and hit like the team that started the year. Desi Humphrey had 10 kills and Raygn Turner had nine. Three Spartans had more than 20 digs each. Humphrey had 22, Toni Marinello had 23 and Turner had 20.
“Everyone worked as a team. It wasn’t enough tonight but so much like the team that began this season,” she says.
The Spartans lost the first two sets 25-18, 25-15, then came back to win the third set 25-19 before losing the fourth set 25-22.
Jayda Storro had 34 assists in the match. Rylee Dixon and Aleigha Jensen each had a block. Jensen served four aces, as did Humphrey.
Monday night the Spartans hosted Bonners Ferry, losing a tough five set match. The Spartans won the first two sets 26-24, 25-20, then lost the next two 25-23, 25-18. Bonners Ferry won the tiebreaking set 15-9.
Humphrey had 13 kills and Callie Stanger had five aces to lead the Spartans. Jensen had three blocks, Turner had 18 digs and Storro had 23 assists Priest River (6-5) will be at home against Orofino Thursday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
