PRIEST RIVER – The Priest River boys soccer team played St. Maries and Grangeville at home last week, shutting out St. Maries 9-0 Monday, Sept. 23 and tying 0-0 with Grangeville Saturday, Sept. 28. They also played the Sandpoint junior varsity Tuesday. Sept. 24, losing 1-0.
Priest River was up 6-0 at the half against St. Maries. Nathan Stifel scored first for the Spartans. Cameron Howell scored twice in the first half, once unassisted and once with an assist by Nathan Davis. Mitchell Ball ended up scoring three goals, including two first half scores, one with an assist by Howell and one unassisted.
In the second half Daryan Haidari scored for the Spartans, with an assist by Gunnar Pettit. Ball scored his third goal with an assist by Jack Zalewski and Pettit closed it out with an unassisted goal for the Spartans.
The next day Priest River hosted the Sandpoint junior varsity, a defensive battle that saw Sandpoint score the only goal late in the game at the 64th minute to give them the 1-0 win.
Starting goalkeeper Baylor White had eight saves for Priest River and freshman goalkeeper Ryker Pettit had one save.
Saturday the Spartans were home again for a 0-0 draw with Grangeville.
Priest River goes to Spirit Lake for a match with Timberlake Thursday, Oct. 3 for a match that starts at 6 p.m. The Spartans play Orofino at home Saturday, Oct. 5, at 1 p.m.
