Newport, West Bonner, Cusick teachers win STCU classroom grants

NEWPORT - Four local teachers are among those receiving $200 for their classroom, part of an online drawing open to teachers, counselors and other classroom- based positions at public and private districts. It is the 11th year STCU has awarded the grants.

STCU, which was founded by high school teachers in 1934, is again honoring its roots by awarding a total of $20,000 to 100 randomly drawn educators.

Winners can spend their grants on anything that will enhance students’ classroom experience, whether a basic need or something special.

Tami Lang of Bess Herian Elementary School in Cusick and Charmaine Van Buskirk of Sadie Halstead Middle School and in Newport were among the winners.

In West Bonner County School District, Karena Thomason of Idaho Hill Elementary School, Topanga Wallis of Priest River Elementary School and Julie Behrens of Priest River Lamanna High School were drawn.
