Lamanna wins Ben Castro Invitational

PINEHURST — Priest River High senior Brayden Lamanna won the Ben Castro Invitational with a 5,000-meter time of 16 minutes and eight seconds at the Pinehurst Golf Course on Thursday, Oct. 3 breaking his own school record by roughly seven seconds. Lamanna previously broke his own school record set Aug. 30 at the Libby Cross Country Invitational — the Spartans’ season-opener.

Sophomore Alannah McLaimtaig had a time of 23:31 and junior Kyla White came in at 23:32, both running new personal bests and finishing seventh and eighth, respectively, for the Lady Spartans. Sophomore Capri White finished in tenth place with a time of 23:47.

Priest River will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Inland Empire Challenge, hosted by Lewis and Clark State College.

Hornets sting Cusick

CUSICK – The Inchelium Hornets football team was too much for Cusick Friday night. The Hornets beat the Panthers 68-42.

“Inchelium did a good job and so did the Panthers in this rivalry game,” Cusick Coach Brandon Harting says. “I congratulate them on their win.”

The Panthers will play another strong team, Wilbur- Creston-Keller.

“We are focused on taking on a challenging opponent, the Wildcats of Wilbur-Creston-Keller,” Harting says. “We are up for the challenge and look forward to the opportunity to play and getting better as a team.”

Cusick next plays Wilbur- Creston-Keller Friday, Oct. 18, at Wilbur at 7 p.m.

Wellpinit whips Selkirk

WELLPINIT – The Selkirk Rangers football team lost Friday to Wellpinit 42-0 at Wellpinit. Despite the loss, coach Kelly Cain said the Rangers played well against a tough opponent.

“I was once again pleased with our effort. It’s been a tough last two weeks against two very tough programs, but the team has responded very well,” Cain says. “They are competing and doing a lot of good things. This was an 8-0 game with three minutes left in the half. We are doing a real good job of playing to our capabilities and not worrying about who we are playing. We are looking forward to the stretch run.”

The Rangers host a game against Republic Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
