NEWPORT - Newport High School volleyball enjoyed a victorious homecoming week beating Kettle Falls 3-0 on Thursday, Oct. 3 and Chewelah, 3-0 Tuesday, Oct. 1. Both were home games.
At last Thursday’s game Kaylia Earl had 10 assists, and the Grizzlies (3-4, 3-3) beat the visiting Bulldogs (1-5, 1-4) in the NE2B league match. Earl had 10 kills to Kettle Falls’ six. She also had four aces. Newport’s Sammi Tellesen made 22 assists. Grace Keck had two digs and Dusty McDaniels had one block. In the first set Newport beat Kettle Falls 25-22, then again 25-21 in the second set. The third time around Newport was triumphant again with a final score of 25-19.
Against Chewelah, Earl had eight kills, Tellesen added 15 assists, and the Grizzlies defeated the visiting Cougars in the NE2B North match last Tuesday, Oct. 1. Newport took the first set 25-17, followed by a final score of 25-7 in the second set. It was more of the same in the third set with Newport winning 25--19. Earl also had nine aces and Newport had 10 digs.
Newport traveled to St. George’s for a match on Tuesday, Oct. 8 after the newspaper went to deadline. Results will be in next week’s newspaper. The Lady Grizzlies will host Northwest Christian Tuesday, Oct. 15 for a game at 6:30 p.m.
