PRIEST RIVER – The Priest River Spartans volleyball team took a five-set win over Orofino at home Thursday, Oct. 3. Priest River won the first set 27-25, lost the second set 25-15, won the third set 25-17, lost the fourth set 25-15 and won the tiebreaker 15-3.
“(That’s) the best we have played in a very long time,” Priest River coach Katlyn Ward says. She says a couple players came off the bench and had a good game. “The team was a team.” Desi Humphrey was the leading hitter with eight kills. She also had 36 digs and served a pair of aces.
Raygn Turner had six kills. Aleigh Jenson had four blocks to lead the team. Jayda Storro had 34 assists.
She also served a pair of aces.
But it wasn’t Humphrey that had the most digs, it was Toni Marinello, who had 42 digs in the match “She was an animal,” Ward says.
The Spartans went to Timberlake Tuesday after the newspaper went to press. Thursday, Oct. 10, the Spartans will go to Newport for a match at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct.
12, the team is home again against Grangeville. That game starts at 1 p.m.
