NEWPORT - The Newport Grizzly Cross-Country was one of 82 high school teams that attended the 7th Annual Battle for the 509 at the Spokane Polo Grounds Saturday, Oct. 5.
In the 5,000-meter novice race Freshmen Daniel Meier came in 98th out of 137 runners with a time of 27:34.90, and Logan Rheinford finished 135th with a time of 39:33.60.
In the 5,000-meter JV Silver race, Junior Donavan Mason placed 110th with a time of 21:25.73.
Sophomore Bruce Bojoruez finished in 171st place at 22:08.17.
In the 5,000-meter varsity race, in 163rd place was junior William Rheinford with a time of 19:27.40.
Senior Brayden Baugh finished with a time of 20:23.80, earning him 206th. His classmate, John Spring, finished 212th with a time of 20:44.60.
For the girls 5,000-meter novice, sophomore Kasey St. Andre finished 83rd with a time of 26:27.40.
Freshman Olivia Collins followed in 86th place with a time of 22:05.50. Her classmate, Sophia Peaker, came in 174th at 23:56.20.
Newport hosted the NE1B/2B League Meet Tuesday after deadline. Results will be in next week’s newspaper. Coming up next the Grizzlies will run at the NE 2B League Championships at the Reardan Cross-Country Course Friday, Oct. 18.
