IONE – The Selkirk Rangers football team got a 46-20 Northeast 1B North league win against Republic at home Friday, Oct. 11.
“Another good team effort,” Selkirk coach Kelly Cain says. “We rushed for 405 yards on 51 carries. Good for almost eight yards a carry. Our backs are running hard and our line (Melvin Mignote-Timblin, Tristan VanArsdall, Emma Ford) is doing a good job of opening up holes. End, Danny Searson and Back, Jaxon Chantry had an excellent night blocking as well.”
On defense, the Rangers played well despite a couple defensive breakdowns, Cain says.
“On the other side of the ball, our nose tackle Charlie Anderson was drawing double teams and doing a lot of the unsung work inside. Defensively we had a couple breakdowns, but overall played a really nice team defensive game.”
Spencer Duty accounted for half the Rangers’ rushing yards. He had 21 carries for 214 yards and three touchdowns . He completed of two passes for 42 yards and a TD. He was picked off once, which Republic returned 55 yards for a touchdown.
Jaxon Chantry had 10 carries for 54 yards and led the team with five tackles.
Blaine Rieckers had two carries for 49 yards, Danny Searson had three carries for 29 yards and scored on a 42-yard pass reception. He also picked off a Republic pass.
Cameron Mawdsley had five carries for 13 yards and a touchdown.
