Garlic, Japanese fabric class coming to Create

NEWPORT – Mark the calendar for these events, coming up at Create Art Center, a local non-profit arts organization in Newport.

There will be a Passionate About Garlic class taught by Nina Messner, owner of Snow Valley Garlic on Friday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. The public is invited, and donations are accepted at the door. Refreshments will be served.

Artist Jenni Barry will teach a Kimekomi class Saturday, Oct. 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Class fee is $36 per person. Kimekomi is the Japanese art of fabric tucking to create images. Tools, base and fabric are provided, but participants can also bring their favorite fabric pieces. Participants are also asked to bring a snack for themselves.

Pre-registration is required for this class either at Create or online at www.createarts.org.

Kai Huschke, Executive Director of the Environmental Community Legal Defense Fund, will give a presentation called Pend Oreille County’s Right to be Rural Will Require Resistance and Resilience on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2-4 p.m. Donations are accepted at the door. There will be refreshments and door prizes. Responsible Growth *NE Washington and the Kalispel Tribe of Indians Charitable Fund helped bring this program to Create.

Roots, Celtic and bluegrass band Bridges Home will perform Saturday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. with special guest Joanne Heinz on mountain dulcimer. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Students get in for free.
