SANDPOINT - The Pend Oreille Arts Council will present Gideon Freudmann at the Panida Theater on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. He will perform a 40-minute mini cello concert, followed by the silent movie ‘Sherlock Jr.,’ during which he creates the entire live soundtrack with his cello, seamlessly providing the soundtrack, creating sounds that often transcend traditional cello music.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of Buster Keaton, and ‘Sherlock Jr.’ is one of my all-time favorites,” Freudmann says. “It’s tough to pick just one! That’s why I’ve set up a tour, showcasing this film with live music in theaters across the Northwest.”
Freudmann is a renowned cellist and composer who has redefined the role of the cello for over three decades. He is best known for his innovative ‘CelloBop’ sound, which blends elements of classical, jazz, folk, rock, blues, and funk.
Using foot-operated effect pedals, Gideon explores new territories of looping, soaring, multi-layering, and improvisation, resulting in music that is complex, nuanced, and compelling.
Tickets are priced at $20 for adults and $10 for youth, and are available for purchase online at ArtinSandpoint.org, at the POAC gallery located at 313 N 2nd Ave, or at the box office on the night of the show.
