Grizzly volleyball end week victorious against Bulldogs

KETTLE FALLS – Newport High Scholl volleyball ended last week on a high note, defeating Kettle Falls 3-0 in an away game Saturday, Oct. 19. Kaylia Earl had seven kills, Sammi Tellessen added 21 assists, and the visiting Grizzlies (5-6, 5-5) defeated the Bulldogs (1-10, 1-8) in the NE2B North match.

The first set was almost neck-and-neck, with Newport winning 25-22. The Grizzlies maintained their edge into the second set, winning 25-20 before besting the Bulldogs in the final set, 25-13. Newport’s Earl had three aces, Grace Keck had 12 digs and Dusty McDaniel had one block.

Earlier last week Newport lost to the Davenport Gorillas, 3-0, in an away game Thursday, Oct. 17. Davenport got ahead in the first set at 25-18, followed by 25-17 in the second set and 25-18 in the third. Earl had seven kills and 13 digs for Newport, Sammi Tellesen had 18 assists, and Lindsay-Rose Collison had three blocks.

Guests Northwest Christian defeated Newport 3-1 Tuesday, Oct. 15. The first set saw the Crusaders win 25-23, but the Grizzlies pulled ahead in the second set, winning 25-21. Northwest Christian maintained the lead in the third and fourth sets winning 25-13 and 2523, respectively. Earl had 15 kills for Newport, Tellesen had 29 assists, Collison, Tellesen and Earl had two aces apiece, Keck had 25 digs and Collison had four blocks.

Newport will host St. George’s Tuesday, Oct. 29 for a game at 6:30 p.m.
