WSU Master Gardeners offer class on Year-Round Garden Planning
NEWPORT — Washington State University Master Gardeners will host a class on “Entire Year Garden Planning” on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m.
The session will address common gardening questions, such as when to start onions, peppers, and tomatoes, as well as which vegetables can be planted after snowmelt or overwintered for early spring harvesting. Participants will also learn how to manage planting schedules without delays and how to fit in spring and fall chores for perennials.
Kamori Cattadoris, a WSU Master Gardener, will lead the class, sharing month-by-month management tools and strategies for a successful gardening year.
The class will be held at the WSU Extension Office, located at 227 S. Garden Ave., Newport. The fee is $5, or $3 for Master Gardeners. Payment can be made by check, money order, cash, or PayPal.

Chopped challenge returns to Priest River Library
PRIEST RIVER — The popular Chopped Challenge is back at the Priest River Library, inviting kids ages 0-18 to participate in a monthly cooking contest inspired by the hit television show.
Contestants are encouraged to bring a prepared dish using the secret ingredients along with a printed copy of their recipe for judging on Nov. 2 at noon. Entries will be evaluated based on presentation, creativity and taste.
New this fall, the winner of November’s challenge will have the opportunity to select the ingredients for the December contest. This month’s secret ingredients are cookies and cream.

Fabric sale Nov. 9 at Create
NEWPORT – The Gina Pugh Memorial Fabric Sale is Saturday, Nov. 9, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Create Art Center. Guests can have coffee, tea and refreshments while they browse. All proceeds go to assist Pugh’s family.
Create is located at 900 W. 4th Street in Newport.
Friends of the Library need you
NEWPORT - Friends of the Newport Library will be meeting Monday, Nov. 4, 1 p.m., at the Newport Library, located at 116 S. Washington. Like other nonprofits, the organization is working on increasing active volunteers to continue supporting the library. The group will discuss how to make it easier for volunteers to participate in a way that meets their availability, passions and talents.
