Panther running to State
CUSICK – Cusick High School sophomore Richard Sandwick is headed to the WIAA State Cross-Country Championships Saturday, Nov. 9. The event is at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
Cusick looks to Pomeroy
CUSICK – The Cusick Panthers football team lost 36-18 to Curlew Friday at home.
Cusick coach Brandon Harting says it was a tough loss.
“We were not at 100%,” he says. “We had some injuries and sickness that we had to battle. We managed to make it a game and fought hard, but Curlew pulled out the win.”
Harting says the Panthers play Pomeroy next.
“They have a firm defense and a tricky, dynamic running attack,” he says. “Hopefully we will be able to get up to full strength as we make the trip south to battle the Pirates of Pomeroy.”
The Panthers (4-4, 4-4) go to Pomeroy (5-1, 8-1) Friday, Nov. 8, for a 6 p.m. game.
Selkirk falls to Springdale
IONE – The Selkirk- Northport Rangers lost 46-38 to Springdale Friday.
The Rangers finished the season with a 2-4 league record and a 2-6 overall record. They finished fifth in the seven team Northeast 1B League.
Grizzly girls wrap up fall soccer
NEWPORT – The girls’ soccer season is over for Newport High School with two losses at their final games and a 5-3 win over Kettle Falls earlier last week. Newport hosted the Bulldogs Tuesday, Oct. 29, with Ella Monk getting four goals. Newport had 28 shots on goal to Kettle Falls 6 and Grizzly goalkeeper Emily Hoffman had three saves.
The soccer season ended when Davenport (9-5, 11-5) beat Newport (2-9 3-10) Monday, Nov. 4. Ella Monk made the Grizzlies’ only goal against the Gorillas.
Earlier in the week visiting Northwest Christian beat Newport 6-0 at a home game Wednesday, Oct. 30.
Davenport will face Northwest Christian in a loser-out game on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
