Parent/Teacher Conference date change 

PRIEST RIVER - The dates for West Bonner School District Parent Conferences for parents/ guardians of students in seventh grade through 12th grade have changed. Conferences were originally scheduled for Thursday, Oct.

31. This date was approved last spring when the school year calendar was adopted.

Many parents, both parent advisory councils, and District staff have expressed their concerns that Halloween may affect attendance at the conferences. The District Administration has listened to their concerns, and rescheduled the Parent/Teacher Conferences for Thursday, Nov.

7, 5-8 p.m.

Moving the date of Parent/Teacher Conferences is an effort by the District Administration to express to parents and the community that parents, staff and community input is necessary, welcome and can effect prompt change, Superintendent Kim Spacek said in a community update.

Parents and teachers have already been notified.

Variety of events to celebrate Native Americans month

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – The Northern Quest Casino and resort has a number of activities to celebrate Native American Month.

There will be a variety of paid admission events, such as the Paint and Celebrate event Saturday, Nov. 23, the “Walk With Pride” Fashion Show Thursday, Nov.

7 and the Native Jam Friday, Nov. 8.

There will also be free events, including a Tribal Artisan and Vendor Fair Nov. 7-10, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will be Native Dance and Drum Exhibitions Nov.

16, from 2-4 p.m. The Northern Quest Dance Championships takes place Nov. 9 at the Pend Oreille Pavillion.

Native DJs will be in action every Friday and Saturday at Highball.

There will also be educational displays including Veterans Day display honoring Kalispel Tribal members who served in the US armed forces, an educational display dedicated to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Display dedicated to the ongoing investigation of missing Native children who attended Catholic residential boarding schools, Back-of-house Team Member centric display honoring more than 400 employees who are enrolled members of 54 different tribes across the nation.

PUD budget hearing set for Nov. 19

NEWPORT – The Pend Oreille Public Utility District No. 1 will hold a public hearing to get input on it 2025 budget.

The hearing will take place at 9 a.m. and will be held at the PUD’s Newport congernece room at 130 N. Washington Ave., in Newport
