Newport clay target team season underway

NEWPORT – The Newport High School Clay Target team, made up of sixth to 12th grade shooters from Newport, Priest River and House of the Lord schools, had their first competition last week.

Dawson Ellingson led all trap shooters with a final score of 46 in the first week of competitive trapshooting. Ellingson shot 21 out of 25 on his first round, and he shot a perfect 25 straight on his second trap.

Multiple other trap shooters were just one bird away from perfect scores. Lindsay Collison, Anden Griesemer, Jeffrey Pierson and Colton Seeber each shot 24s, while Berg Hughes, Hank Kirkwood, Brett Moody, Sawyer Wiese, and Luke Wright each shot 23s.

Altogether, the NHS Clay Target Team fields 27 trap shooters and six competitive skeet shooters.

The skeet shooters were led by Landon Hall who shot 37 out of 50 for the week. Hall was closely followed by Lindsay Collison, Dawson Ellingson, and Luke Wright who each shot 35 out of 50.

The NHS Clay Target Team has four more weeks left in the regular season. The season concludes with the Washington State Tournament on June 1st. A team and family fun shoot, barbecue and award day will take place after the State Tournament.
