Cusick football ends with loss in crossover game

POMEROY – The Cusick Panthers’ football season ended with a 56-0 loss to Pomeroy in the District 6 1B crossover game.

Pomeroy had a big 32-point first quarter and added 16 more points in the second quarter.

Pomeroy (6-1, 9-1) now plays Odessa in the first round of the state playoffs. Cusick finished the season with a 4-2, 4-5 record. They finished third in the league, behind Curlew and Inchelium (5-1, 5-4) and Curlew (6-0, 8-2).

Newport volleyball wraps up season

FREEMAN – The Newport High School volleyball team ended their season with a loss to Freeman, followed by a loss to Northwest Christian Tuesday, Nov. 5. To start the night the top-seeded Scotties (17-2,10-0) beat the visiting fourth-seeded Grizzlies 3-0 in a District 6 2B first round match. Up next Newport lost to Northwest Christian 3-0, after the second-seeded Crusaders (11-1, 15-4) beat the Grizzlies (6-9,6-6) in the District 6 2B loser out match.

No further stats were available for either game.

The Davenport Gorillas (15-5,11-1) beat the visiting Crusaders (15-4, 11-1) 3-1 Thursday, Nov. 7. The Scotties beat the visiting Liberty Lancers (13-6, 7-3) in the District 6 2B championship match last Thursday as well. Both Freeman and Liberty will advance to the State Tournament.
