Letters to the Editor

Democratic votes don’t matter in Pend Oreille County

To the editor, Some thoughts on the election and Pend Oreille County results. Gee, it’s great being one of the 30% who has no voice in our elections. The Democratic Party in this county has had no voice for 15 years, perhaps longer. Republicans control local government with no elected participation from Democrats. Nothing, not even a whisper of power. The county government functions on handouts from the Democratic West side of our state.

Most residents in our county are on some form of government handout or work for a government entity. Our productive economy is crypto currency machines humming away in what used to be occupied buildings and businesses. Trump improved on his 2020 percent of the Pend Oreille County vote from 67% to 68%.

Yes, make Pend Oreille County decline again. In four years, we will still be down at the Post Office waiting for our checks from Seattle and Olympia. The good news is that Washington is a blue state, and all the state offices are held by Democrats. That’s kind of a “right back at you” for Pend Oreille County elected Republicans who are pseudo state employees.

Having single party government control sucks for the other party. The result is that one party has all the blame or success. It’s like sitting on the bench at a high school football game. You secretly hope for the first string to fail or get injured so you can play.

Republicans in Pend Oreille County have been the first string for over 20 years and the result is seen in the economic development failure of our county. Our main industry is intrusive local government that limits our freedom and property rights while assessing and taxing our fixed incomes. Go to Owens Market and look at the pictures above the bar and see when PO County was once great.

The ‘News’

To the editor, I’m frequently met with skepticism when I suggest that mainstream “news” has become barely concealed propaganda. The idea that the “Trusted News Initiative” coalition exists to release as fact solely what the powers-thatshouldn’t- be want us to believe sounds too “far-fetched.” So I was delighted when I discovered investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson. I haven’t watched television for over 50 years, which explains a lot about my views. I’m therefore unacquainted with news anchors and reporters everyone else listens to daily. I first learned about Rachel Maddow when my book club read her biography, for example. I discovered Sharyl Attkisson listening to her intriguing interview by Del Bigtree on The Highwire.

Sharyl is author of several impeccably documented books sharing how she went from a celebrated CBS reporter to an independent journalist, smeared and subjected to intimidation by the DC Machine. The title of her book, “Stonewalled: My fight for truth against the forces of obstruction, intimidation and harassment in Obama’s Washington,” says it all. The story she reveals is eye-opening.

Once upon a time journalist students were given an automatic “F” on an assignment for making a factual error or for copying an idea for a story from another news source. Press releases were solely a starting point: what somebody wants you to report. Now, dig in! What is not being said?

Today’s broadcast producers no longer trust what their journalists dig up and document as fact. It’s “fact” only if the producers have seen it quoted in sources like the WSJ or NYT! To keep their jobs, “journalists” must echo the propaganda and pass it off as news. Sharyl says it’s like asking a talented artist to do a paint-by-number project: “Use the colors we instruct you to use. Fill in the preselected image. Stay in the lines!” -Kamori Cattadoris Newport

America speaks

To the editor, For only the second time in history, a President who lost an election came back to win a second term, and he did it in style. Trump swept all seven swing states, winning the Presidency, the Senate and the House. He won the Electoral College as well as the popular vote. It was almost as if America sent a mandate, we want change.

Here are some remarkable facts: for the first time in history, the Amish community came out in full force for Trump in PA. Recently, the Biden Administration overreached into their farming. They said no more. Trump also boosted all minority communities, black males from 11% in 2020 to 25%. He boosted Arabs and Muslims in at least the state of MI. He broke the Hispanic record achieving 55%. Pundits are calling it the greatest political comeback in history. He had the largest win since Reagan won 49 states in 1984 against Walter Mondale.

What does this mean? Well, he might appoint Elon Musk to head a committee on government efficiency. My guess is Musk will slash the government employee fat as well as control any unnecessary spending. Remember what he did to Twitter? Trump has RFK Jr making America healthy again. After listening to Kennedy, I’m guessing that has to do with our food production and medicines. Kennedy doesn’t like the vaccine schedules that our kids are on. After hearing this, the FDA held an emergency meeting. Interesting.

Trump will rally up the economy. The DOW shot up 1,200 points on the news of his election. Trump has said that America is about to enter it’s ‘Golden Age’. My guess is that prices will begin to fall on our cost of living. As for me, I will enjoy $2.00 gas and more affordable groceries again.
