Chamber, port offer social media training

NEWPORT – The Greater Newport Area Chamber of Commerce and Port of Pend Oreille are joining together to put on a Social Media 101 training for area businesses Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Newport High School Library.

Members of the chamber can attend for no charge; non-members are welcome with a $10 donation to the chamber.

Dinner and kids’ activities are provided. RSVP by calling the chamber at 509-447-5812.

Cusick School District selling electronics

CUSICK – The Cusick School District is surplussing a variety of electronic equipment, including 15 iPads, 25 Amazon Kindles, 75 Chromebooks, along with a metal forge and all accessories and a furnace. For more details contact Edie Laux or Regina Williams at 509-445-- 1125.

Tourism grant applications due Dec. 2

NEWPORT – The deadline for organizations seeking Pend Oreille County Hotel-Motel funding for tourism promotion is Dec. 2. Applications are available at the county commissioners’ office.

They can also be found online on the county’s website, www.pendoreille. gov/board-county-commissioners, under the Departments, County Commissioners tab from the panel on the right.

Vandalism hits Metaline Falls

METALINE FALLS – Nancy Kiss, maintenance assistant for Metaline Falls discovered that the Busta Park bathroom doors had been kicked in, according to a press release from the town of Metaline Falls.

The doors have since been repaired, and there was no other vandalism.

The bathrooms had been winterized (water turned off and anti-freeze set).

Kiss also has found trash being dumped illegally along Pend Oreille Blvd.

Some she was able to clean up, but some had gone over the edge of the embankment and was not retrievable.

The vandalism has been reported to the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office.

“The Town of Metaline Falls isn’t used to vandalism and the actions have caused consternation for the council and the mayor,” according to the press release.
