Pend Oreille County needs your participation

NEWPORT – Want to give back to your community? The following Pend Oreille County Volunteer Boards have vacant positions. If interested in any of these, submit a letter of interest along with an informational statement: The Noxious Weed Control Board has openings in District Nos. 1, 3 and 4, as three member terms are expiring. This board is charged with the cooperative control and management of noxious weeds, develops and manages Weed Board policy, adopts the County weed list which identifies mandatory weed control, reviews and oversees the annual budget, responds to community inquiries or complaints, and holds public hearings on new weed policy. See the website for more information at www.pendoreille. gov/weed-board. Members are appointed from five districts to 4-year terms.

Meetings are the second Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. at the Weed Board Office.

The planning commission has one opening for a resident from Commissioner District No. 1. This seven-member board is charged with current and long-range planning function, certain permit applications, and acts as an advisory board to the County Commissioners. At least two members from each of the Commissioner Districts serve on this board. Member terms are 4-years. Meetings are typically the third Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m.

The Library District Board of Trustees has one opening. The Board of Trustees is the policy-making body of Pend Oreille County Library District.

District administration is delegated to the director, who serves at the pleasure of the Board. The Board meets every fourth Thursday at 4 p.m. Website is www.pocld.org. Member terms are 5-years. Trustees are limited to two consecutive terms.
