NEWPORT – South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue is re-dedicating its Newport Fire Station at an event Saturday, Nov. 30, at noon.
Chief Shane Stocking wants to thank the many dedicated staff, volunteers, and SPOFR Commissioners who helped with the painting and cleaning projects to prepare for this day.
“This partnership with the City of Newport will allow SPOFR to be more centrally located to serve the residents of Pend Oreille County with pride,” he said.
“Constituents of South Pend Oreille, the City of Newport and the County as a whole should be excited about this historic opening. It is no small feat to staff a fire station 24/7, but our residents deserve the absolute best in fire and EMS coverage, and it remains SPOFR’s mission to deliver the highest level of service possible.”
To celebrate this Re-Dedication Event, there will be cookie decorating for the kids, made possible with a partnership with My Sidewalk Cafe, along with hot dogs and hot chocolate from noon to 2 p.m. This will be followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony to be attended by city of Newport partners, local fire districts, Life Flight and SPOFR staff and volunteers.
“This event isn’t primarily about Newport or SPOFR. This is about and for the community, just as this fire station is,” chief Stocking said.
