Give blood Dec. 19
NEWPORT – Make an appointment to give blood at the Vitalant blood drive Thursday, Dec. 19 between noon and 5 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Newport. This will be the Newport community’s last blood drive of 2024.
As the sole provider of blood products to over 44 area hospitals in the region, Vitalant strives to maintain a minimum four-day supply of all blood types, but without increased donations during the holiday season in the coming days and weeks, patient care could be delayed. Blood donors are always needed.

County offices closed for holiday
NEWPORT – Pend Oreille County offices are closed Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 29 in observance of Thanksgiving.
Library invites community to strategic retreat
CUSICK – The Pend Oreille County Library District invites community members to a strategic retreat with representatives of ReThinking Libraries. This is the conclusion of the district’s strategic planning process, which has been ongoing since August. The retreat is happening from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5 at the Cusick Community Center.
Lunch will be provided to participants (drinks not provided). Topics for the retreat will include the results of the facilities analysis and findings from the planning surveys and meetings and how these items will transition into a five-year work plan for library staff.
