Here’s what’s happening at the Falls

“Fog” a problem for Metaline Falls

When you are dealing with wastewater (a polite term for the sewer system), one thing that can be eliminated but can cause the greatest problems is FOG. Not the weather phenomenon but “fat-oils-grease” that are poured down drains and toilets. These items may go down as liquids but quickly become a solid glob that causes blockage not only to the Town’s sewer pipes, but to the ones leading from a home or business – these are called “sewer lateral lines” and are the responsibility of the home/business owner. Add to this mess the residue of human waste and the most-hated “flushable wipes”, and quickly the Town is dealing with a problem that can end up costing thousands of dollars.

Remember that the only thing down your toilets and sinks are “brown water” (the water you use), human waste and toilet paper. Flushable wipes and baby wipes are not flushable, failing to disintegrate like toilet paper is designed to do. Do the Town a favor and get a large can or coffee can and use it for all fats/oils/ grease. Before you wash those dishes (sink or dishwasher) be sure all FOG is off the plates and pans. Home and business owners are reminded that any blockage that occurs in their connecting line (sewer lateral line) are their responsibility.

For more information, contact the Metaline Falls Town Hall about your wastewater system.

All are $12.50 per bag, save the walnuts at $10 per bag. The nut sale will continue at the Deck the Falls Crafts Faire on Saturday, Dec. 7.
