Newport boys lose to good St. George’s team

NEWPORT – The Newport Grizzlies boys’ basketball team lost a Northeast 2B North game 61-42 to the St. George’s Dragons at home Friday, Dec. 13.

St. George’s got off to a good first quarter start, up 21-14. The teams had a 10-10 second quarter. St.

George’s came out after the half and put the game away with a 22-10 third quarter. The teams played an even fourth quarter, with eight points each.

Damien Hamberg led Grizzly scoring with 13 points. Berg Hughes scored 11 points and Hank Kirkwood scored 10 points for Newport.

Wednesday night, Dec.

18, Newport (0-4) goes to Colbert for a game with Northwest Christian (2-1) at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, they play Jenkins High School (0-2) at Chewelah at 7:30 p.m.

Newport girls struggle with St. George’s

NEWPORT – The Newport girls’ basketball team had a tough Friday the 13th, when they played St. George’s at home, losing the league game 63-38.

Grace Keck was the leading scorer for Newport, with 10 points.

Newport’s next game is with Northwest Christian on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

The game starts at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, the Grizzlies got to Chewelah for a game that starts at 6 p.m.
