Cusick hoopsters at home for next games

CUSICK - The Cusick Panthers boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are at home for the next several games. Thursday, Jan. 9, they take on Tekoa Rosalia. The girls’ game starts at 6 p.m. and the boy’s at 7:30 p.m.

The following night, Friday, Jan. 10, the boys play Columbia at home at 6 p.m. The girls don’t play.

Monday, Jan. 13 both teams are home again against Oaksdale. The girls play at 6 p.m. and boys at 7:30 p.m.

The Cusick boys have a 6-2 overall record, and are 3-2 in league play, not counting a game against Curlew Tuesday, Jan. 7. The girls are 3-4 overall and 1-4 in league play.

Grizzly wrestling busy this week

NEWPORT – The Newport High School wrestling team hosted Reardan Tuesday, Jan.

7 after the newspaper’s deadline. Results and photos from that event will be in next week’s edition. The Grizzlies head to Lakeside High School for a dual Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 6 p.m. After that it’s off to Northwest Christian Junior/Senior High School gym to compete against 16 other schools including Selkirk High, Saturday, Jan. 11 with wrestling starting at 9 a.m. Newport will host the Kettle Falls Bulldogs Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 6 p.m.

Cook competes at Rollie Lane

NAMPA – Priest River’s Hailey Cook, 235 pounds, competed at the Rollie Lane Wrestling Invitational, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 3-4 at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.

Cook received a championship round No. 2 win by pin against Boise’s Jaida Judge. She went on to get pinned in rounds three and four.

Next up, Spartan wrestlers compete at the River City Duals at Post Falls High School Friday, Jan.
