NEWPORT – Auditions for the musical ‘The Wizard of Oz’ will be at the Pend Oreille Playhouse Sunday-Monday, Jan. 26-27 at 6 p.m. Callbacks, if needed, will be Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 5 p.m. Participants are asked to arrive early at 5 p.m. on audition days to fill out forms and get photos. Auditions start promptly at 6 p.m.
All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and will be able to leave after information is given out to the group. Auditioners need only to attend one audition day and need to be available for callbacks if required by the director.
Actors should bring an approximately one-minute song to sing, preferably with a backup track or karaoke accompaniment, but backup is not required.
Do not choose a song from the musical. Come dressed to move around comfortably (bring shoes to change into if wearing snow boots).
Each person will sing their prepared song first, then do some easy dance moves, followed by reading parts from the script. Vocal auditions will be in a group setting, so contact the Playhouse if you would like to sing privately.
If cast, rehearsals will be Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 6-8:30 p.m. Rehearsal will run later in the evening two weeks from when the show opens. Rehearsals begin Monday, Feb. 3. The first rehearsal will have a mandatory parent and actor meeting the first 30 minutes so information and measurements for costuming can be gathered.
Performance dates are May 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11, 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays. Actors are required to be present at all performances and all tech and dress rehearsals.
The play will be directed by Amy Dawson. The Pend Oreille Playhouse is located at 236 S. Union Ave. in Newport. For more information, call 509-550-2155 or go to www.pendoreilleplayers. com/auditions.
