‘Pied Piper’ auditions coming up at Cutter
METALINE FALLS – What do you do when your town is overrun by ravenous rats? You call the Pied Piper. Take a trip to Hamelin Town with the Missoula Children’s Theatre and local students as they perform an original musical adaptation of the classic tale, “The Pied Piper.”
Auditions will be held Monday, Jan. 27 from 3:455:45 p.m. at the Cutter Theatre in Metaline Falls.
Students, grades K-12, are encouraged to audition.
No advance preparation is necessary. Assistant directors will also be cast to assist with the technical aspects of the production.
Among the roles to be cast are the Pied Piper, Sara, the mayor’s kids, the mayor’s council, the Hamelin Administrative Team (HAT), barbers, cooks, towns kids and the troublesome rats.
All those auditioning should arrive at 3:45 p.m. and plan to stay for the full two hours. Some of the cast members will also be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition. Two performances will be held at The Cutter Theatre Friday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m., and on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m.

Play Bunco Jan. 24
NEWPORT - Soroptimists of Newport is hosting another Bunco night Friday, Jan. 24 at the Hospitality House in Newport starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door.
Proceeds support programs for women and girls in the community, including the Live Your Dream Awards, the Girl of the Month and the Priest River Distinguished Young Women scholarships.
Bunco is a dice game. The Hospitality House is located at 216 S. Washington in Newport.
There will be prizes, food and fun and organizers urge people to bring your friends, your spouse or your neighbor to the fundraiser. The mission of Soroptimists is to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.
Local band performing in January at Create
NEWPORT – Local multi-genre band Easy Love is performing live 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26 at Newport’s Create Art Center.
Featuring artists Randi Marie Shaw, her mother Tina Shaw and Mike Lithgow, Easy Love’s performance is a fundraiser for Selkirk Alliance for Science and free to attend. SAS is accepting monetary donations to fund science education activities that are usually also free.
SAS is a local nonprofit organization that organizes science presentations; workshops and other hands-on activities; citizen science opportunities; online science resources; science trivia contests; scholarships for local high school graduates pursing a science career; and evidence-based white-paper essays. Donations to SAS are tax-deductible where permitted by law.
Easy Love will perform a blend of vocal harmonies and lyrics. The band’s sound comes from an upright bass; acoustic and electric guitar; and the Shaws’ mother-daughter vocal harmony. All Easy Love’s music is original.
