Cusick boys down Selkirk
CUSICK – The Cusick Panthers’ boys’ basketball team won the Battle of the Paddle, a rivalry game with Selkirk Thursday, Jan. 16 at Cusick. The Selkirk-Cusick girls’ game was called off because Cusick didn’t have enough players.
Cusick beat Republic 57-39 in another home game Saturday, Jan. 18. Cusick led start to finish, with Roland Campbell leading all scorers with 22 points in the Northeast 1B North league game.
After traveling to Columbia for a game Saturday, Jan. 25, the Panthers host Selkirk Tuesday, Jan. 28. The girls’ game is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
Grizzlies struggling on court
NEWPORT - The Newport boys’ basketball team has yet to win a game, while the girls team has done somewhat better with three wins.
Most recently the boys (0-7, 0-14) lost a 49-43 non-league home game to Colville Saturday, Jan. 18, an 80-36 Northeast 2B North league game at Reardan Friday, Jan. 17 and a 58-55 league game at Davenport Tuesday, Jan. 14.
The girls’ team (16, 3-11) lost 64-37 to Colville Saturday, 66-14 to Reardan Friday and 58-25 to Davenport Jan. 14.
The teams will try to turn the things around with home games Saturday, Jan. 25. The boys will take on Northwest Christian (6-1, 12-3) at 4:30 p.m. The girls will play the Crusaders (5-2, 11-3) at 6 p.m.
Spartan hoopsters winning
PRIEST RIVER – The Priest River Spartans boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are in the midst of winning seasons. The boys (3-0, 9-2) got a 6353 Central Idaho League win at Grangeville Saturday, Jan 18. Nate Stifel scored the most points in the game, with 19. He also grabbed eight rebounds. Parker Coleman scored 13 points and Carter Cook scored 11.
The girls (3-1, 10-4) lost their first league game of the year to Grangeville 69-54 Saturday. Earlier in the week they beat Kellogg 41-24 at Priest River Thursday, Jan. 16.
Desi Humphrey scored the most points in both games. Against Grangeville she had 18 points and scored 23 against Kellogg.
The Spartans are at home Friday, Jan. 24 against Orofino. The girls game starts at 1:30 p.m. The boys game starts at 3 p.m.
