PUD anticipates getting public input on rate increase

NEWPORT – The Pend Oreille Public Utility District will likely seek public input on rate increases in February, following a lengthy presentation on the district’s updated 10-year financial and revenue requirements forecast at its meeting Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Some of the main points of the presentation included the potential implementation of a 4.25% annual rate increase to maintain financial stability, compliance with Clean Energy Transformation Act requirements and $110 million in capital improvements over the next decade. The forecast anticipates $20 million in new debt to support the electric system.

If PUD commissioners approve a rate change, following public input, it would be implemented in April, according to a news release from the PUD.
