Spartans host Newport

PRIEST RIVER – The rivalry game between the Priest River Spartans and the Newport Grizzlies continues this week. The Spartans will host Newport for basketball games Friday, Jan. 31, with the girls’ game starting at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.

Fernandez breaking wrestling records

PRIEST RIVER – Spartan wrestler Petra Fernandez, 126-pounds, is blazing her own trail in Priest River Lamanna High athletics, breaking the record for most takedowns in a season with 23. The record was previously held by Helena White at 12 for the 2021-2022 season. Fernandez is also on track to pass White for most wins in a season, needing only five more to make it 18.

Bradbury hits 25

NEWPORT – Veteran trapshooter David Bradbury was the only shooter who hit a perfect 25 in week four of the 10-week Winter Shoot at the Newport Gun Club Sunday, Jan. 26. He hit 25 birds in the 16-yard event.

The Newport Gun Club had 23 shooters participate. Here are the results.
