METALINE FALLS - The Metaline Falls Council approved the town becoming part of the Pend Oreille County Growth Management Act (GMA). The GMA is important to Metaline Falls to secure grants and loans from public entities as well as meet state requirements, Mayor Tara Leininger said.
After holding a public hearing, the council also updated its Comprehensive Plan, with the work of Andy Tom of James A. Sewell Engineering. his, too, is a necessary document to meet state requirements. Both documents are available for review at the Town Hall.
Leininger and the council reported that a short movie-shoot was held in Metaline Falls, with the company utilizing the softball field and adjacent property, as well as the American Legion Building. The entire set-up, shoot, and tear-down was only four days, but extras and actors all spent time in the town, and having Metaline Falls in another movie is always good for the community.
The council approved the purchase of new shelving for the secure storage facility (housing stored documents), a new hand lawn mower, and a contract to asphalt specific areas of the streets within the town.
Other public presentations included Ken Jarret, representing American Legion Kaniksu Post No.144, on plans for the Labor Day weekend, and Kelly Flanagan, representing PORTA, on the upcoming Bigfoot Festival.
Maintenance Director Neil Bennet’s report included the continued spring work; the park bathrooms are ready, the Visitor’s Center will be open next week (sunrise to sunset), and Maintenance Assistant Nancy Kiss has the flowers in their pots and planters, as well as hanging baskets at the Visitor’s Center.
The next scheduled meeting of the Metaline Falls Town Council will be Tuesday, June 11, at 6 p.m.
