Donations sought for Great Grizzly Auction

Floch makes Alabama president’s list

TUSCALOOSA, AL - Elizabeth Floch of Blanchard was named to The University of Alabama President’s List for Fall Semester 2024.

Origami for Valentines

NEWPORT – Use the art of paper folding to make a special gift for Valentines Day at the Origami for Valentines workshops Wednesday, Feb. 12at Create Art Center. The first workshop is 1-3 p.m. and the second is 3:30-5:30 p.m. Each class is $15, and all materials are provided.

Poison poster contest deadline Feb. 14

SEATTLE – The Washington Poison Center and Seattle Children’s are inviting Washington students from Kindergarten through 12th grade to participate in the 19th annual Poison Prevention Poster Contest. This year’s theme is “Pick Your Poison.”

Posters are to be submitted by Feb. 14. There are four age groups – K-2, grade 3-5, grades 6-8 and grades 9-12.

Kindergarten through fifth graders winners will receive a variety of prizes, including gift cards and a class party, with a visit from the one and only Mr. Yuk.

Sixth through eighth graders and high school winners will receive an iPad and a visit with their local legislators. Here’s how it works: Pick a poison: choose a harmful substance (like a chemical, toxic plant, or local venomous animal) Learn about it: explore how your selected poison affects people and how people can stay safe Get creative: design a unique, eye-catching poster to share what you’ve learned Winners will be announced March 16-22, during National Poison Prevention Week.

SPOFR collecting soup

DIAMOND LAKE – The South Pend Oreille Search and Rescue is accepting donations of soup for the Newport Food Bank.

The Newport Food Bank needs soup, SPOFR announced in a news release. They invite people to bring soup to the fire station at 32572 Highway 2 in Diamond Lake or to the food bank itself at 301 Second St. in Newport.
