NEWPORT – The Newport Grizzlies girls basketball team got their second Northeast 2B North league win at home Wednesday, Jan. 29, solidly beating Chewelah 44-29.
Emma Crabtree led all scorers with 17 points, including hitting four 3-pointers. Grace Keck scored nine, including a 3-pointer and Emma Whitehouse scored seven. Sammi Tellesen also hit a 3-pointer. She scored five points.
The Newport girls struggled to finish the game in a 57-46 loss to Kettle Falls in another league game at home Saturday, Feb. 1. The Bulldogs (11-6, 4-6) outscored Newport (4-13, 2-8) by 10 in that quarter. Newport was within six heading into the last quarter after outscoring Kettle Falls 14-13 in the third quarter.
Tellesen scored 15 for Newport to lead Grizzly scorers, including four 3-pointers. Dusty McDaniel scored 11 for Newport. Keck scored nine, including a pair of 3-pointers.
The Grizzlies were low on offense in a 42-22 loss to Priest River Friday, Jan. 31.
Newport went to St. George’s for a game Tuesday, after The Miner’s deadline. They host Davenport for senior night Friday, Feb. 7, with the game starting at 7:30 p.m.
