CREATE adding two youth classes

NEWPORT — The CREATE Arts Center is adding two youth classes to their schedule.

The classes are Ben Kardos’ Rhythm and Rhyme and Angela’s Hand Building Pottery.

Rhythm and Rhyme is an interactive song-writing program for youth ages 10 to 14. Youth learn about lyric-writing, musical creation in a group setting and live song production from Kardos, who emphasizes self-expression through creative writing and music.

The class is from 3 to 4 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. It is free and sponsored by the Kalispel Tribe of Indians.

Hand Building Pottery is a program for youth ages 6 to 12. Youth learn common methods to make various items out of clay.

The class is from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Excepting a $15 material fee that covers firing, glazing and clay, it is free and sponsored by the Kalispel Tribe of Indians.

While not a youth class, Anne Taylor is teaching pathways to improve posture and stability from 10 to 11 a.m. on Feb. 22. CREATE recommends they wear comfortable loose-fitting clothing and flat shoes or fluffy socks.

Pre-registration for all three classes is required. To pre-register, visit CREATE at 900 W. 4th St. in Newport or its website at www. createarts.org.

Carl Rey and Truck Mills are also presenting a concert at 6 p.m. on Feb. 22. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door and free for students.
