SPOKANE — Newport’s lady grizzly wrestling team emerged victorious at the WIAA District 6 1B/2B/1A girls’ district championships Saturday, Feb. 15 at Rogers High School in Spokane.

Several lady Grizzlies qualified to go to the State Tournament, including Payton Bennett, 100-pounds, and Allysah Bays, 110, both freshmen, took first place in their weight brackets. Bennett was named Wrestler of The Year.

Addison Stigall, 126, won second place, while Clover Tannehill, 185, Shanelle Mullaley, 235, and Savannah Garris, 120, all won third place in their weight categories.

Newport placed fourth out of 18 schools, and the Newport girls’ wrestling program received Contributor of The Year.

Up next it’s time for the state championships at the Tacoma Dome Friday–Saturday, Feb. 21–22.
