Coleman wins state championship

WORLEY – Junior Palmer Coleman won state championship at Circling Raven Golf Club during two days with a 7 over par 151 May 13-15.

“The course was long and windy. He shot 76 the first day and 75 the second day winning by 2 strokes over Beau Jones from Lakeside,” coach Jim Bob Coleman says.

Palmer Coleman and his father coach moved to Priest River last year from Billings, Montana.

Palmer Coleman says he was surprised that he won.

“I played pretty decent saving my pars because it was so breezy,” he says.

“I was nervous at hitting from the last tee, it felt like one hundred people were watching me,” Coleman says.

Coleman played golf in Montana his freshman and sophomore years. He said he was surprised because at Priest River, throughout the golf season he placed second and at one game, third. He had not won a meet before winning the championship.

Girls scores included Pavin Coleman who placed 32nd out of 62 with total 220. Paityn Yount tied 54th with 248. Brooklyn Best and Aleigha Jensen tied for 57th with 253.

“It was a huge accomplishment for getting to state as rumor had it, the last time the PR girls qualified was 1997. I am super proud of these girls!” Coach Palmer says.

“Circling Raven is not an easy course. Throw in the wind and fast greens, golfing sunrise to sunset, and it makes it a challenging two days of golf. At the end of the day, they made Priest River proud,” Coach Coleman says.

Coleman thanked Nicki Yount for helping to coach this year and to the rest of the team.

“A heartfelt shoutout to all four of these girls Pavin Coleman, Brooklyn Best, Paityn Yount, and Aleigha Jensen! They all worked so hard this year!” Coleman says.
