PRIEST RIVER — The West Pend Oreille Fire District sponsored a multi-district Ice Training event Feb. 7–8 at Crystal Lake, just outside of Priest River. The lead trainer, Marcella Reed, and her assistant, Clint Reed, are part of “Idaho Fire Service Training.”

“We appreciate and thank all the neighboring fire districts and Bonner County EMS for attending this important training event,” West Pend Oreille Fire District Fire Chief Jamie Painton said.

Dive Rescue International developed the training criteria for the session.

Also attending were people from Pend Oreille Fire District 2, South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue, Pend Oreille Fire District 4 and Bonner County EMS.

Training started Friday night at West Pend Oreille Fire District, with focus on elements of ice rescue, ice, victim assessment, personnel and equipment and developing an operational plan. Then classes started on Saturday for live-on-ice rescue training. The lake was covered with 7 inches of ice at the time.
