Spartans’ Sedbrook medals at state track meet

MIDDLETON – Priest River’s Rebecca Sedbrook turned in a personal best throw at the best time and came back from the Idaho State 2A Track and Field Championships with a fifth place medal in shot put.

“She was seeded eighth, but with a huge PR of 34-feet, 10.5-inches, she improved to fifth place,” Priest River coach Jared Hughes says.

Hughes says the dozen athletes that he took to Middleton also performed well.

“We had 12 amazing young men and women compete well,” he says. “Eleven of the 12 had at least one PR or improved their seed.”

Several Spartans placed in the top seven at the meet.

Brayden Lamanna trimmed seven seconds off his best time in the 1,600-meter race to finish seventh. He also finished seventh in the 3,200-meter race.

Kylee Swoboda, Jasmine Stark, Ashlyn Korff and Haley Braae placed seventh on the 4X200 meter relay team, with a time that was two seconds faster than they have run before.

Brae also had a personal best in the 100-meter race, in which she finished 16th. Stark, a freshman, finished 13th in pole vault, clearing eight feet.

Carter Korff took seventh in the long jump, 14th in triple jump and 15th in the 100-meter race, where he had a personal record time.

Niki Porinchock won seventh in the discus.

Other athletes Hughes said did well included Lizzie McCracken, who finished 12th in the 800-meter race, beating her personal best by a second. She finished 16th in the 1,600-meter race. Ian Lamanna finished 12th in the pole vault, tying his best vault of 11-feet, 6-inches.

Marley Burgess-Duquette reached a new height in the pole vault, as did Kylee Swoboda in the high jump.

Next up for the Spartans will be the Awards Night at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 28 in the high school. The kids will also have the opportunity to compete in some summer meets if they choose.
