Food film presented at CREATE
NEWPORT - The documentary Food, Inc. 2: Back for Seconds will be shown, Sunday, June 2 starting at 2 p.m. at CREATE Arts Center, 900 West 4th St., in Newport.
CREATE Arts Center, Responsible Growth NE Washington, Selkirk Alliance for Science, and private donations are sponsoring the third film in the humanities series on the challenges of food production, agriculture, and agribusiness. Since the first 2008 Oscar-nominated and Emmy Award-winning documentary Food, Inc. multinational corporation have tightened their stronghold on US governments, and robbed workers of a fair wage and contributed to the global proliferation of ultra-processed foods; foods that are contributing to growing obesity and major health issues.
The film focuses on innovative farmers, future- thinking food producers, workers rights activists, and prominent legislators who are challenging the food producers in order to inspire change and build a healthier, more sustainable future, according to organizers.
Donations are welcomed at the door and refreshments will be served. Closed caption is provided. CREATE Arts Center is a handicapped accessible facility.
